The Body Responds by Lying Down
Curated by Vanessa Kowalski
Brooklyn, NY, 2019
Duration: 2 Hours

This performance and collective remnants from the performance focused on painting with different parts of the body – forearm, hand, feet, etc. – while listening to jazz and blues music. The resulting strokes show the process of allowing the body to move freely without restrictions, as a way to channel ancestors and allow them to speak through us. The amount of paint displayed on the remnant’s canvas depended on the body part used and the length of the song that was playing.
